Solomon in Deadlock: Abilities and Chess-Piece Mechanics

How Setup Bishop, Kingside Knight, Rook Battery and Develop Queen control space, move allies and punish predictable paths.

Applies to: Solomon's released ability set, checked October 16, 2026; no item build or matchup tier list

The short answer

Solomon became playable on October 9, 2026. Setup Bishop places movable damage zones; Kingside Knight protects and repositions an ally, or makes Solomon the king when self-cast; Rook Battery sends two reflecting, immobilising rooks forward; and Develop Queen repeatedly attacks along chessboard-like lines. His kit rewards deliberate placement more than a fixed combo.

Release and role

Solomon became playable on October 9, 2026. His four named abilities borrow movement patterns and roles from chess pieces. The useful connection is spatial: he creates lines, zones and repositioning threats that reward planning where a fight will move next.

Setup Bishop

Setup Bishop places damage zones that can be moved after placement. Use the first position to contest a route, then relocate the piece when the fight shifts instead of abandoning its value. Diagonal or offset pressure is strongest where enemies have limited exits.

Kingside Knight

Kingside Knight targets an ally to grant protection and move them in the knight's pattern. Casting it on Solomon makes him the king and doubles the barrier. The piece is invulnerable while moving, but that transit detail should not be expanded into claims about every stun, grab or terrain interaction without current testing.

Rook Battery

Rook Battery sends a pair of rooks forward. They reflect from surfaces and can immobilise enemies they catch. Solomon can split their paths at right angles, turning a corridor, doorway or wall into part of the ability rather than firing both pieces along one predictable line.

Develop Queen

Develop Queen attacks along chessboard-like lines, can stun targets and may be moved repeatedly during its active window. The queen threatens more than one lane of movement, so repositioning it after an enemy commits is often more valuable than placing it for immediate damage alone.

Placement principles

Choose the piece for the space you need to control
PieceBest question to askCommon planning error
BishopWhere will enemies stand after they leave this angle?Leaving the zone behind when it can be moved.
KnightWhich ally needs protection or a surprising new position?Moving an ally without a safe landing plan.
RooksWhich walls can create crossing paths?Sending both along a route enemies can read immediately.
QueenWhich movement lines must the enemy avoid?Treating the first placement as final.

Interaction limits

Ability summaries do not settle every edge case. Collision, crowd-control immunity, vertical terrain and interactions with newly patched heroes can differ from a plain-text description. Use Sandbox or the current client before relying on a specific competitive setup.

This page therefore explains the released mechanics without claiming a universal combo, item build or matchup tier.
