Gears of War: E-Day co-op and split-screen explained
Separate console split-screen from online campaign co-op and identify what remains unclear for mixed parties.
Applies to: Launch campaign · Xbox console and PC
The short answer
The campaign supports two-player local split-screen on Xbox console and up to four players online. The official Xbox page explicitly limits split-screen to console, so do not plan on local PC split-screen.

Which co-op option fits your group?
| Campaign option | Officially listed limit | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | One player | Xbox console or PC |
| Local split-screen | Two players | Xbox console only |
| Online co-op | Up to four players | Supported online platforms |
These limits refer to the campaign. Horde Siege and competitive Versus are different modes with their own team rules. The Xbox page explicitly says the two-player split-screen feature is console-only.
Can PC players use split-screen or join a mixed party?
Do not plan a local PC split-screen session: it is not in Xbox's listed PC features. Steam's official listing says optional account linking supports cross-platform invites and roaming saves. It does not explain every combination of Steam, Xbox PC, console and mixed split-screen-plus-online parties. Verify your exact setup in the game's invite menu or an updated official support article before arranging a four-person session.
What else does online play require?
The Xbox page says online campaign co-op, Horde Siege and Versus require a Game Pass subscription that includes online console multiplayer where applicable. PC and Steam account requirements depend on the storefront and mode. Check the current purchase page for your platform rather than assuming the console subscription condition applies identically to PC.
